Naturopathy
Naturopathy is a way of treating illness which
works on the principle that healing depends upon the action of natural healing
forces present in the human body.
Naturopathy is a form of medicine practiced widely throughout the world
although it is often not called by this name outside the west.
It is basically concerned with discovering and removing the root cause of
disease whether it be chemical (from faulty eating, drinking, breathing or
elimination) mechanical (spinal malalignment, muscular tension, stiff joints or
bad posture) or psychological..
Naturopathy encompasses numerous modalities including nutrition, herbs, homeopathy and many other modalities mentioned on this website.
Homoeopathy
Homoeopathy is a
wholistic therapy which treats each person individually.
Because
Classical Homoeopathy treats the whole person, a successful treatment brings
about an improvement in health on all levels, including physical mental and
emotional. The medicines used in Homoeopathy are prepared in such a way as to
cause no side effects or addiction, making them very suitable for the treatment
of children and pregnant women.
Iridology
Iridology is the science and
practice that reveals inflammation, where located and in what stage it is
manifesting. The Iris reveals body constitution, inherent weaknesses, levels of
health and the transitions that take place in a person’s body according to the
way he/she lives.
Iridology is the science of analysing the delicate structures of the iris of
the eye. The iris is that portion of the eye that carries the colour. Iris was
the goddess of the rainbow in Greek mythology; she was also messenger of the
gods in the lliad. Under magnification, the iris reveals itself to be a world of
minute detail, a land of many features.
The eyes have been proclaimed throughout the ages as the "window of the
soul". We now acknowledge them as the mirror of the body. Manifestations in and
about the eyes have long been used to gain insight into a persons state of
health. Today it is realised that the information revealed in the eyes is
greater than was formerly imagined.
The iris is connected to every organ and tissue of the body by way of the
brain and nervous system. The nerve fibres receive their impulses by way of
their connections to the optic nerve, optic thalami and spinal cord. They are
formed embyrologically from mesoderm and neuroectoderm tissues. Both sympathetic
and parasympathetic nervous systems are present in the iris.
There is evidence that the ancient Egyptians analysed the iris to ascertain
the spiritual potential of candidates for the priesthood and other important
positions. The Chinese have references to iridology over 600 years ago, and
there are eye charts or grids which cross reference with acupuncture meridians.
Fascial Kinetics
Fascial Kinetics is
a very effective but gentle system of soft tissue manipulation. Fascial kinetics
is the name given to the work taught by Russell Sturgess and is based on the
soft tissue philosophy of Mr Tom Bowen. It is also known as the Bowen Technique
after the person who developed this unique and amazing modality.
It addresses fascial and connective tissue mobilisation in a much more gentle
and less intrusive manner than the traditional deep tissue techniques. It thus
avoids any possibility of over treating and tearing fascia instead of stretching
it. Not only is Fascial Kinetics more gentle on the client but it is also ‘user
friendly’ for the therapist, and without compromising results.
Fascial Kinetics can be used to treat musculo-skeletal problems, sports
injuries and a wide variety of conditions such as Asthma, Migraine, Hayfever,
Colic, Bed wetting, Prostate and Arthritic symptoms. It is safe and highly
effective to use for acute injuries as well as longstanding chronic complaints.
It stimulates the healing response of the connective tissue, reducing
inflammation, swelling and pain significantly and increasing mobility. It is
suitable for everyone from babies to the elderly, from athletes to the
immobile..
Massage
Massage is probably the oldest
healing art known to man. Its history can be traced as far back as three
thousand years before the birth of Christ.
Ancient China, India, Egypt, Persia, Greece and the Roman Empire all had well
developed systems of massage. In 450BC Hippocrates was one of the first to study
massage scientifically and he began classifying the movements and noted the
direction the strokes should take for the best results. Amazingly, it was nearly
2000 years later that any real knowledge of the circulatory system was
understood.
Swedish massage was developed by a swede called Par Henrik Ling who travelled
to China and brought back some remarkably effective techniques. He synthesized
his system from his knowledge of gymnastics and physiology and from Chinese,
Eygptian, Greek and Roman techniques.
Swedish massage and Japanese Shiatsu are the most popular methods used today
in the west.
Perhaps it is time for us to look deeper and consider the very real qualities
of touch. Highly developed in some civilisations, people in western societies
have most difficulty in feeling comfortable with touch, either giving or
receiving
This phenomenon had is roots back in the Dark Ages when any body pleasure was
considered sinful. Other civilisations had no such restriction, and healing
through touch became highly evolved in many cultures throughout the world.
The Victorian era certainly cast its shadow on our acceptance of bodies as
beautiful, and today England is considered the most touch deprived country in
the world.
In New Zealand we have inherited much of this and sadly influenced the Maori
population with a false sense of modesty and inhibition regarding touch.
Previous to this influence, massage - especially baby massage, was a highly
regarded and integral part of the Maori Culture.
It is with great joy that many people welcome the opening of the Aquarian
Age, and touch amongst other forms of natural healing is rapidly being given its
rightful acceptance.
People are discovering that it is just as beautiful to give a massage as
receive one. To give love in this way is to give and receive a most precious
gift. One that not only released physical and emotional tension, but also gives
us the space to discover the beauty of other dimensions within us.
Massage manipulates the soft tissue of the body. It is most effectively
performed with the hands and applied for the purpose of producing beneficial
effects on the nervous and muscular system, and the circulation of blood and
lymph. It is the skilled use of the hands for producing or regaining elasticity
of the muscle tissue, releasing tension, and producing relaxation.
Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is an
ancient, worldwide system of medicine using plants to prevent and cure disease.
To the medical herbalist, a herb is any plant of medicinal value. There are at
least 350,000 known species of plants.
The use of plants to cure disease is older than man himself. Animals ate
plants of certain kinds when they fell ill and indeed they still do. Man has
always been dependent on the plant world for his nutritional survival and
especially so as three of the fatty acids essential for life (linoleic,
linolenic and arachidonic acids) are found almost exclusively in the plant
world.
Ever since records have been kept, there have been herbal medicines. The
Chinese had sophisticated pharmacopoeias (list of useful drugs) in 3000 BC. In
1963 the contents of a grave in Iran revealed that plants were used medicinally
as long ago as 60,000 years ago. William Caxton printed hundreds of medical
textbooks in the fifteenth century and as more people could read and learn about
herbalism, interest grew until the publication of probably the greatest work in
English on this subject, Nicholas Culpeper’s Complete Herbal, in 1653.
The death knell of herbal cures was probably sounded by Paracelsus, the Swiss
physician, who lived in the sixteenth century. He and the other ‘alchemists’
that followed put their faith in inorganic remedies such as mercury and antimony
in addition to herbal cures. This was the birth of the chemical approach to
medicine that we live with today. The fashion in drug treatment was to
concentrate on inorganics and as a result herbal remedies became quaint
oddities.
Bowen Technique
Bowtech - Bowen Therapy, gently balances
the body to allow it to heal itself. The work consists of a series of precise
moves on specific points of the body. These moves are light and can be done
through clothing. There are frequent and important pauses between each series of
moves giving the body time to benefit from each. The technique uses positive
moves that initiate positive energy flow and negative moves that isolate this
energy in a specific area. Every body is better with Bowen.
There should be no other treatments for four day's before Bowen, or up to
five days after Bowen treatment as the other treatment may interfere with the
effectiveness of Bowen. But Bowen does not interfere with the effectiveness of
other disciplines.
No heat or ice on the areas worked on, no massage or rubbing of areas. If
there is pain it will usually will be in the first 24 - 48 hours and is a sign
that the body is realigning itself.
When there is pain, drink water and walk. If sitting after treatment at home,
work or in the car, do not sit for longer than 30 minutes without taking a short
walk.
Allow five to ten days between treatments. One week is ideal. Bowen treats
numerous conditions including:=
Back Spine and neck problems Depression Angina and other heart
conditions High and low blood pressure Frozen
shoulder Migraines Digestive problems Constipation Women's
problems Asthma and other lung conditions Kidney Liver TMJ, ears,
eyes Oedema Sciatica Tennis elbow Knees And much more ...
Holistic Pulsing
Holistic Pulsing
provides tremendous benefits to sufferers of physical or emotional problems, as
well as those who need deep relaxation from stress, more pleasure and
playfulness in their lives, or are seeking self discovery.
Reflexology
Reflexology is the art
of restoring the body to health through special massage techniques to the feet.
Massaging the reflexes of the feet increases the blood circulation thus relaxing
the tension throughout the nervous system which restores the normal energy flow.
Urine Analysis
Urine Analysis indicates
state of mucous membranes and organ function/health.
Haemaview
Haemaview is a blood
analysis, one drop on a microscope slide, will give information on blood fat
levels, state of health of red and white cells and deficiencies.)
